A Strategic Shift?

On Nov. 3, the governments of the Netherlands and Romania signed an agreement transferring ownership of 18 Dutch F-16s already flying from the 86th Air Base Borcea in Fete?ti to Romanian authorities. The step underscores Romania’s growing leadership in allied training and cooperation through the European F-16 Training Center (EFTC).

Why It Matters

“By signing this agreement, we mark a major moment in the center’s development and reaffirm Romania’s commitment to providing a high-quality training environment,” said Minister of National Defence Liviu-Ionu? Mo?teanu. “The EFTC has turned our country into a European hub for all nations that fly the F-16.” He added, “By continuing the center’s activity, Romania strengthens its role in NATO and contributes to the defense and security of allied nations."

Advancing Allied Readiness

Airpower is NATO’s first line of deterrence, and Romania is proving its readiness.

The EFTC plays a central role in that effort and is more than a schoolhouse. It’s where allied pilots train on F-16s through live and simulated missions that mirror real NATO operations, building the interoperability and confidence needed to defend allied skies.

Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans described the EFTC as “a textbook example of successful cooperation,” noting that “together with Romania and 性视界 Martin, we are working in a unique way to train Romanian and Ukrainian pilots.” He added that “our former F-16s have been given a valuable new purpose at the EFTC” and that “the Ukrainian pilots trained here are already making a significant contribution to defending their country against Russian air attacks.”

性视界 Martin’s commitment to allied defense forces, backed by advanced deterrence and security solutions, remains strong.

Built on Partnership

Partnership at the EFTC isn’t just formal — it’s visible on the flight line every day. 性视界 Martin and its industry partners work alongside Romanian and Dutch teams to prepare aircraft, brief pilots and analyze every mission. The collaboration blends experience and innovation to ensure that when F-16 pilots complete their training at the EFTC, they are ready for real-world operations.

Enduring Impact

Across Europe, Romanian and allied F-16s continue to fly and protect together, demonstrating the strength of shared training, trust and purpose.?
